Local Interest
Recent foodborne illness outbreaks have many people concerned about the safety of the food we eat. Nebraska Extension will be holding in person ServSafe Food Handlers classes in February, April, May, and September; and in person ServSafe Manager Classes in March, May, August and October for food service managers and employees who would like to update their food safety knowledge and skills. All classes will be presented by Nebraska Extension Educators certified in the ServSafe program.

Planting and crops looking good in the Panhandle

The Nebraska Panhandle crop report for the weekend ending May 17, shows despite a slight delay in planting due to wet fields, the sugar beet crop is planted and emerging. Corn planting should be completed by this time next week. Corn is also emerging across the Panhandle.

2024 Nebraska Soil Health School has successful launch

The first installment of a planned 2024 Nebraska Soil Health School series was held on April 24 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln High Plains Ag Lab in Sidney, Neb. The event addressed the semi-arid Panhandle climate and potential management practices for soil health and had over 60 attendees.
