Social Security is a social insurance plan for retirement.  Workers and their employers contribute to Social Security when they work.  The Social Security Act was signed into law in 1935 and  there has been numerous provisions since that time but Americans who are 65 and older qualify.

Nebraska Extension will be offering a 1-hour physical fitness class the first and third Friday’s each month beginning February 2, 2024.

The SAIL program is an evidence-based program developed by Washington State for adults who are 65 and older.  Nebraska Extension Educator, Brenda Aufdenkamp has recently received her instructor certification.

The class will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM the first and third Friday each month for $10.00 per adult participant.

Research has shown that you will be stronger, have better balance, feel better, and allow you to stay independent, active and prevent falls.

Planting and crops looking good in the Panhandle

The Nebraska Panhandle crop report for the weekend ending May 17, shows despite a slight delay in planting due to wet fields, the sugar beet crop is planted and emerging. Corn planting should be completed by this time next week. Corn is also emerging across the Panhandle.

The first installment of a planned 2024 Nebraska Soil Health School series was held on April 24 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln High Plains Ag Lab in Sidney, Neb. The event addressed the semi-arid Panhandle climate and potential management practices for soil health and had over 60 attendees.
